Inspiration While Wandering
I think wandering is key to making art. I was out with my baby Ronan. I took him to Barnes and Noble, because as usual, I needed coffee. Now this stuff is my fuel nowadays, being a newish mom and such. Barnes and Noble in the kid section, while Ronan’s devouring literature, and I hear the most strangely smooth harmonies.
They remind me of the Triplets of Bellvue score. Ideas for music kept welling up in me as I heard these ladies, who I later found out to be the Puppini Sisters, like a literal modern translation of the Andrew Sisters. They did some covers like Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Mister Sandman and also, I think their original Jilted Again. Wow.
So I got home, put Ronan down for a nap and started recording some three part harmonies with myself. I thought this would be so awesome to do with my sisters, but alas we are everywhere in different cities. I even thought I could call myself the Shannon Sisters , which would be fun cause I’m just one. Maybe I’ll make the Shannon Sisters a project. I wanted to share what I recorded.
Take a listen…

I like the harmonizing voices of the Shannon Sisters in both songs! Nice takes on both of them!

I like the tightness of the harmonies in Bellville Rendez-vous, it reminds me of one of those old time trains traveling at a fast clip except it sounds nicer.

loved the trips of b., too.
wandering is definitely paramount, be it through streets, books, or even our own memories. the things that count will naturally resonate, recur, and evolve in our imaginations and then happily spill out into our artwork. hopefully shaun and i can make it to the tea grotto tomorrow night.
Love it…Love it…Love it….hope to hear more.
