life is art ~ art is life

My talk today is on the importance of loving and living one’s art .

Macro-ly the world needs it and micro-ly our communities need it.

What happens to society when one single person gives up on their dreams?

I guess we are flexible humans and we can find other paths, right?

My thought on this is that if we let go on what we truly want out of life and choose something else, what’s to stop that something else from morphing into some other dream and on and on. Spinning out of control into an abyss of lamented dreams.

I have a song I wrote about this .

Jump in the River

The elusive instigator wants me to put my dreams off ’til later

Promising comfort and solitude, wrestling me with her restless attitude

I’m not going to take any more, I’m walking out that door,

Down to the river, down to the water.

Jump in the river, take a chance on the supreme,

Jump in the water, don’t dam a moving dream.

So this is where I start, my art, my life; they have never been separate . Though they’ve been separated, by me, when I thought my art-life was too tough. Then I found that not living my art was way weirder and harder.

So here I am, living.

I love your lyrics to Jump in the River–beautiful. And thanks for learnin’ me ’bout the Puppini Sisters–what fun! Rock oh….I mean, Jazz on, Bebe Supreme!

Shannon has the voice of an angel, the soul of a siren of jazz, and the eyes of a summer morning. Her voice doubles- triples-quadruples under the techno-magic of our age; and I suddenly hear a chorus of angels crooning of ‘bellville’, coffee, the blues, and tunes to snuggle by. Her talent is Vast, her spirit is boyent, and her smile- glowing. If you ever have the oppertunity to hear that angel sing, then consider yourself lucky, The heavens will eventually hold her to their contract….but we have her for now; and that is a sweet deal. —–hugs and Peace—-Randy

Oh, I truly love Jump in the River! Welldone, sis! I can attest to the fact that making a living at one’s art is truly DIFFICULT. At first (although my at first has certainly gone on for awhile). Keep pluggin’ away toots, you got the stuff!

Hi Shannon… What a weird and productive Friday it has been… at least by my standards. I am impressed and inspired by your soulful tones and beautiful words. I discovered you once as a friend and co-worker. I have rediscovered you as an artist (well, and hopefully still a friend of course). I hope you are smiling in the warmth of the sunshine!

Hope to cross paths again soon…
